Hey turns out I can ban people so that's what I did. If anyone would like to debate that decision feel free to start a new thread, talk to me in person, PM me, etc.

Hey...My name is Mike Gifford and I will be moving to the Raleigh area in the next month. I currently live in Buffalo, NY. I am mainly trying to learn about what is happening in the Raleigh area as far as punk and hardcore shows, places to eat, things to do, etc. Once my family and I are settled, I would like to get involved with a band situation. I have been in a few bands over the years like Running For Cover, Slave State, Gas Chamber, Resist Control, Area Denial, Sinking Ship, Final Dosage, and others. My tastes in punk are pretty wide and varied, though I am a pretty limited guitar player. Well, that's my story!

Welcome, Mike! Sorry this forum is so dead right now... to be honest, I kind of forgot about it for a while. Hopefully things will get more active soon!

My name is Joe. I moved to Durham for grad school last year. Before that I lived my whole life in St. Paul, MN, where I went to a lot of punk/post-punk/noise rock/experimental/indie/etc. shows and did some booking and fanzine stuff.
The message board for the Modern Radio record label in the Twin Cities was (and to some extent still is) a really great community resource for that kind of thing, so I'm glad to see some people trying something similar here. It's not clear right now whether it's going to pan out, but I'll hang around for a while and see.

Welcome, Joe! That's cool you're from St. Paul, that's where my dad's family is from. There are a handful of awesome ex-Raleigh punx who live in Minneapolis now, you may possibly have met them. Do you know the Much Worse dudes? Our resident hyperactive drummer / show booker / crazy person Ira Rogers is currently doing like a Minneapolis punk scene exchange program where he is on tour with Much Worse, then spending another month or so with them in MPLS writing/recording a new album. So Minneapolis and Raleigh seem to be developing a weird kind of "sister cities in punk" bond or something.
I'm going to go on Facebook right now and remind people that this forum exists -- if nothing else, we still seem to be posting about upcoming shows on the calendar, so check that out and come say hi the next time we have a show that looks good!

Yeah, I think this forum is yet to really find its raison d'etre, but I hope it does. it would be nice to have an active community insulated from all the stupid, corporate social networking sites.

Totes. It's crazy how much the internet has changed in 10 years. Facebook and Reddit have become so ubiquitous, it's harder to keep people engaged in a good ol' fashioned internet forum. (I say this because I, too, completely forgot about this forum until like, last week. Facebook keeps my desire to interact with others online satiated, and that sucks.)

I'm afraid Much Worse was one of those bands I heard about a million times but somehow never saw... but on the subject of the Minneapolis/Raleigh connection, the first Raleigh band I saw after I moved here was Davidians, whose guitarist Colin is a fairly recent Minneapolis transplant. (I don't know him personally, but I really liked his last Mpls. band, Safewords.)

Mike: I've noticed is that there's a big population of Buffalo ex-pats living here – I see Sabres stuff everywhere. I think lots might have come from tech companies opening offices or relocating to RTP over the past few decades. Check my "Help an import out" thread. I recently moved here from Chicago, and that was a way to kind of feel my way around the Triangle.
Joe: St. Paul's scene is so great. I love any band Hideo's in, especially his current incarnation, Birthday Suits. Before leaving Chicago, I caught a bunch of Blind Shake shows – those guys are so awesome.

You're speaking my language! I'm a longtime fan of both those bands. The Blind Shake, especially, are the best band and the best guys.
Come to think of it, the first time I saw Birthday Suits, it was at the release show for the Blind Shake's Rizzograph, in 2005. I was 16!
